Do I need my own handgun for this course?
No, you don’t need your own handgun. If you have one, I encourage you to train with what you plan to use or carry. If you don’t have a handgun, rentals are available at no cost, but the range requires you to purchase their ammunition for rental guns.
Currently, my training takes place at various indoor ranges in Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and the greater Tampa Bay area, depending on class type and availability. Classroom portions are held either on-site or at a nearby training space.
Private training at other locations, including in-home sessions for families, is available upon request. However, all live fire portions of training must take place at an indoor range. If a range outside of my standard training area (Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, Tampa Bay) is requested, I will need to obtain prior permission from that facility before conducting training there.
You’ll need approximately 50 rounds of ammunition for this course. You’re welcome to bring your own, or you can purchase it at the range. If you’re using a rental firearm, the range requires you to purchase their ammunition.
Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. A high-neck shirt is recommended to prevent discomfort from ejected brass. Avoid low-cut shirts, open-toed shoes, or loose clothing that could catch on equipment.
The class lasts approximately 3 ½ hours, though timing may vary depending on class size and participation.
No, this is an Introduction to Handguns course and does not fulfill the state requirement for an LTC. However, if you plan to take the LTC course, this class is highly recommended first.
Many LTC courses focus primarily on legal requirements and do not include in-depth handgun training. The LTC course does require you to pass a shooting qualification, which assumes you already have basic firearm handling skills. This class will build your confidence and shooting ability so that you feel prepared when you take your LTC course, giving you a strong foundation before moving on to the licensing process.
Range fees vary depending on location and are paid directly to the range on the day of training.
Please bring a government-issued ID and your signed waiver. No loaded firearms or live ammunition are allowed in the classroom portion of the course.
Absolutely! This course is designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence in safe firearm handling. I’ll guide you through everything step by step.
