Heather Hartman is an outstanding instructor, I give her my highest recommendation possible. If you're a woman in Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, or anywhere in the Sarasota–Manatee area looking for firearms training, start with Hartman Tactics.
Heather was wonderful before class even started. She patiently answered all of my questions so I knew exactly what to expect. Her women's handgun course is built around safety and real-life situations, and most importantly, it's taught from a woman's point of view. I really appreciated that she understands the differences women face, both out in the world and in handling a firearm.
She covered safe handling, grip, stance, aim, clearing the gun, handling misfires, and range safety, and she also covers everything you need to know for your Florida concealed carry permit.
My biggest piece of advice: don't buy your first gun before taking Heather's class and getting to practice with different guns. Let her help you choose one. The person behind the counter doesn't always know what fits your hand, your needs, or your experience level, and Heather will.
I walked in never having fired a handgun and left confident and capable. Heather is calm, encouraging, and clearly knows her craft. Whether you're a complete beginner, want a refresher because it's been a while, or would like one-on-one instruction, Heather is the only instructor I'd send my friends and clients to. Heather was patient, professional, and took the time to answer every question without making anyone feel rushed or uncomfortable.
What I appreciated most was the strong focus on safety while still making the class engaging and easy to follow. She explained everything in a way that made sense, offered helpful feedback during the hands-on portions, and made sure everyone felt confident before moving on.

Heather was an amazing instructor. My daughter and her cousin learned so much. The examples were very descriptive making it easy to imagine and understand and the way she explained things was amazing. We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to have one of the last classes she was teaching in the area. We flew from CA to visit family and took advantage to take the class with her. I honestly can't say enough good things about this class. I was so nervous about going into this Woman's Introduction to Handgun Course because I had zero experience with guns, and they honestly scared me. I almost talked myself out of taking the class because I didn't know what to expect.
Heather was an amazing instructor from the very beginning. She made me feel so comfortable, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. You can tell she really cares about teaching people the right way and making sure everyone feels safe and confident.
By the end of the class, I couldn't believe how much better I felt. I went from not wanting anything to do with a gun to feeling much more comfortable handling one and understanding how to do it safely. I still have a lot to learn, but this class completely changed my mindset and gave me the confidence to keep learning.
If you're on the fence because you're nervous or have no experience like I did, I really recommend taking her class. I'm so glad I did, and I'm really grateful to have learned from someone who was so patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging.
